Here's my problem...
The widescreen does work, but maybe a little bit too much. The picture that i see is actually a little wider than my TV, so what's happening is part of the movie picture gets chopped off. I'm using TMPGEnc to encode to SVCD, so maybe i'm using the wrong aspect ratio setting... currently i'm using "16:9 525 line (NTSC)"... will setting it to a different 16:9 setting (such as "16:9 display") work? My video arrange method is "full screen (keep aspect ratio)". The problem probably lies between those two settings. If anyone knows how i can possibly fix this, let me know!
Thanks!

That sounds like overscan to me (do a search for that term, lots of posts on it), which varies from TV to TV. You may need to re-encode, but add a small border (which will shrink the picture a small amount).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
Ok, so it's possible that the problem can actually lie in the TV itself...
Thanks for the tip, i'll look into that!

Correct; if you make a VCD/SVCD made just for viewing on a PC, you don't need to worry about overscan, but if you intend to watch it on a TV, make a test disk on a CD-RW (so you don't waste a disk), watch it and estimate how much overscan you have on your TV. Add a border with that will shrink the actual video enough so that all of it is visible (and still compliant XXXxYYY with your chosen format).

Well, i've decided to not worry about it. First off, the problem is very slight, only a 1/2 or so is cutoff. and it turns out that it's not my VCDs, it also happens with original DVDs also. Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate it!
One more question though... is "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" any different from the "16:9 display" setting? Do they produce different widescreen views?
Thanks!
