  1. I apologize if this topic is inappropriate here.

I have about 40 gig of smaller video files I want to backup. Most of them have long file names ...more than 64 characters but less than 128.

I have these files backed up to CDR but want to put them on DVD+R.

I backed them up on CDR with NTI CD Maker pro which supports what it calls the 'Romeo' file system and can name files up to 128 characters. However NTI does not record to DVD.

I have Nero and CDRWin but they only have the Joliet file system which is limited to 64 characters.

Is there any DVD burning software that will allow me to keep the full name of the files?

    Thanks,
    Andy

The problem might be that the filesystem for cds/dvds doesn't support long filenames. Joilet is a way to see long filenames on discs whereas the official names on the disc would actually be the 31 characters.

This isn't a solution as much as a workaround... but you could always archive the files, since archiving programs always retain the full name.

If you need the files to be viewable but still have the long names recoverable you could use a parity program like fsraid. Not the intended use... but one byproduct is that it uses an md5 hash to uniquely identify files, and it can rename them all to the original names for you. (there may also be other programs that are designed for this). That way when you pull the file off the disc and put it on your hd, you just run the .par file and it will let you rename to the exact original name for the file.

It would really be nice thought if NTI had DVD support
