  1. The process I have been using is this one: http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm#audio

The picture quality and sometimes the sound is pretty poor. Could you give me tips on catching better quality? Such as programs to use or any sort of tip you can offer.

    Thanks.

  2. How do the video and audio quality of your VCD output compare to that of your VCD source?

    1. Roughly equivalent
    or
    2. Noticeably inferior

In the case of #1, you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear (or, more bluntly, "you can't polish a turd").

In the case of #2, you'd have to supply more details as to the bitrate and resolution of your noticeably superior source file.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

The sourse affects the overall quality of the final product.

That guide perty much is what I do for DIVX audio....the save as wav part.
    My audio is always fine.
In TMPG they have you using standard VCD template....that should be good quality...So no problem there...But in the US (here) I use the VCD template (ntsc). Dont know if you are.

So we are down to the burning app and source. I dont use VCD easy so I have no idea how good it is or if it effects quality...but others use it, so it should work fine..I have most recent version of NERO and I never have had a problem.

So we are back to source...a good copy of a movie in divx format should be around 700mb or more...If its less then there's the problem...Its compressed so much that you could not possible expect to get even, in my opinion, passable quality. Meaning you might watch that small divx on pc and seem ok to poor...but if you convert and burn ...then quality will be poor.
You dont get this type of issue when converting (encoding) form DVDrip or good quality DIVX or mpg.... just from others piss poor job of compressing : )

  4. SOme Downloaded Divx files have 48khz audio. VCD requires 44.1khz. TmpGenc is not the best audio converter/encoder available. The author recognises this by allowing users to supply external tools. Generally recomended are ssrc.exe for sampling rate conversion and toolame for encoding to mp2 audio. Find them in the tools section. This MIGHT help with audio quality but as the others said, garbage in = garbage out.
