My cheap ass Mintek DVD player is acting up... movies would freeze every 20-30 mins. The only thing i like about this player is that it can play anything (bootleg,VCDs,MP3s u name it)
However, i like this Panasonic but my questiion to the experts is that can i play anything from this machine? Does anyone have any experience with this?
TIA!![]()

I own a Panasonic DVD player and even though they are great players they won't play everything, forget SVCD's and any VCD's higher than 2600 bitrate, mine will play DVD-R's, CD-R's, MP3's, Audio DVD's, 5.1 Audio CD's, VCD's up to 2600 bitrate,
Couple of good players that are well built and play anything and under $100.
daewoo 5800, Pioneer 250,
A Sampo 631CF is good also but runs about $149.
The Daewoo and Sampo machines can be easly hacked also with just a file burned on a CD-R, no panasonic can be hacked.
But my Panasonic plays my DVD-R's the best also.
Have tried the SVCD head trick and it does not work my model is the RA61. -
Thanks for the quick reply: Does your Panasonic play all DVDs?I have lots of VCDs , i hate them btw
, but i'm not sure if they are SVCDs or not they are VCDs from China, and now my friends bring a lot of DVD9s here...my friend who has a Sony can't play it...
Thanks again -
had a panasonix RV31 - played DVDs, DVD-R/RWs, VCD (standard bit rate - never tried anything higher), audio/MP3 - good player. Sold it and got a JVC XV500BK - that has support for SVCD - gorgeous. - in addition to all the above.

Fobulous,
I too had the RV31, great player with great results except no support for SVCD and had to use CDRW for my VCDs. Don't do SVCD so I didn't care. The CDRW thing was a kind of a PITA though. I then got the RP56 which sounds like an earlier version of what you're looking at. Again, other than SVCD, it'll play alot of formats.
HOWEVER, what I think people are missing is that this is a true PROGRESSIVE SCAN player (like the RP56) and not just a line doubler like some others out there. Coupled with a TV that support progressive scan, you won't be able to beat it.
Unless you absolutely need SVCD, I think this is a great progressive standalone, especially for the price.Have a good one,
neomaine
