I have just downloaded afile that has the extension divx.avi it is too large to get on one disk as an avi & so i need to chop it. Virtual dub will not open the file because it is unsupported & neither will the divx player. I get the mesage that Mpeg 4 is not supported & there fore would like to know where I can get the right codec & how i install it so that I can split it or process it to SVCD with TMPGenc.
A big thank you to anyone who can help & responds to this![]()

Well its long winded telling people to get this codec and that codec, its a lot easier to install them all, download and install the Nimo codec pack and all your troubles are over. Well maybe

Why not use DVDCutter, at the same time it's a AVI(DivX) C2u3t2ter as well, you can download DVD38C293ut28t23er in www.cnet.com
Listsen to me, if U indeed wanna get this software, you will have to remove all of numerals in this text, you will find)
-
You probably need to download the DivX codec from www.DivX.com but I do believe that the Nimo codec pack also includes the DivX codec
-
The Nimo Codec pak nor the Divx codecs will work with mpeg4 I have tried them all and virtual dub or any other software will not support Mpeg4. I have tried several different ways to to cut and encode this type of avi and the audio always fails. will encode picture but not audio. If someone could shed some light on how to encode mpeg4 compressed audio it would greatly be appreciated. have tried several different programs to uncompress mpeg4 but all say it is unsupported

If you have problem with Audio, its nothing to do with MPEG-4 Video, you probably got AC3 or something that you need to convert and save uncompressed at 44.1Khz
The "Only" Mpeg4 that I know that is locked is the M$ MPEG-4 V3 which can be downloaded unlocked from anywhere, but this has nothing to do with Audio. -
I installed the Nimo Codec pack as was suggested & that has solved the problem that I had.
Thanks -

Hey thanks, but I threw it in Tmge last night to see if it would decode it and it started to
,but I cancelled it and will do it tonight while I;m at work. I dont like sitting around watching it for 7 hours, now those files right there are the correct files I would find on a P2P?,thanks

Yes they are but I pasted them as a sig2dat file, if you copy them and paste into sig2dat, they will automatically start downloading in Kazaa
-
Nevermind,I took the time to look it up
Sorry ,I asked before I even thought about taking the time to look it up."Sleep-

7 hours on a 1.2G prosessor ??????
It only takes an hour or so for the full film, on a 1.6 P4, whats happening ? -
Various people ( on this board and Vendors) through around the term MPEG 4 and actually mean a variety of things. M$ started with its proprietary MPEG4 based avi codec and quickly altered it to only work in asf format. Then they moved on to WMV7 and WMV8 and soon to be released Corona. Real has Real 8 and now Real 9. Divx started as a hack of the M$ MPEG4 based avi codec but became open source with 4 and then proprietary and is now up to 5.02 Xvid grew out of the original open source effort and continues as such. MPEG4IP is an open source ISO MPEG4 effort which has created source code tools to create ISO MPEG 4 files They even have a player. Divx claims to create .MP4 files in addition to .avis and that they conform to the MPEG 4 standard. Phillips has its own hardware based MPEG4 encoder and player and claims its ISO - MPEG4 but no other player will play it. Sigma Desgins has been making chipsets for settop boxes and now the XCARD that claim to be iso MPEG4 compliant but supposedly don't allow B frames which is clearly in the standard. Now Apple has released QT6 beta which claims to produce and playback ISO MPEG 4 files but it depends greatly upon how the audio header in the Dolby patented AAC format is written. (FAAC works, PsyTel doesn't)
The bottomline is this. We all think we can create mpeg 1 and 2 compliant files with our AIW, Win TV PVR, Dazzle, USB DVD Station, Premier, Tmpgenc, CCE, Ligos etc ...... and 2/3 of this forum is "Why won't this play correctly on my computer/settop?" Square or cube the confusion and that's what we have to look forward to when peolpe are bitching that their cellphone, handheld or settop won't play MPEG4.
There, I feel better now. -

Hi
Ah, I forgot about the P3, yes moving to the P4 will vastly improve things, you can usually encode in real-time with high quality movies.
I have always had an Intel chip since 286 days, but the P3 was not was not as fast as yours, but cannot remember ever taking longer than 4 hours. Since my upgrade I also got two IBM Deskstar drives, source is on D and destination on C, that way is even faster.
When I bought the 1.6, prices were high, today the 2.Gb is the price I paid for the 1.6 and its not been that long. Motherboard is also Intel, I did try a few others before I settled on this one, it performs well.
Just finished Minority Report, it took 85 minuetsbut there again, I wasn't doing anything else on the machine. I do usually run Vdub checking frames, while TMPGEnc is converting in the background, and also burn a disk at the same time, so that slows it down a bit
-
I know what you mean about prices,I bought my labtop in March and its already outdated...damn Dell.
Well I guess my only real option is to update already...
I know I could get a good deal on a Pc,but I like my Labtop.
Well thanks for the help."Sleep-

I just looked
my old PC is a P3, 450, so even with that it was much faaster than your 7 hours, I guess your laptop is holding you back with many bottle necks.

@KingJohn,
Can you tell me where there are the verified lists of sig2dat files? It would be nice if ShareReactor had that type of info also, but they are more dedicated to Edonkey basically. -
Hi...another question
will the nimo pack also solve the illegal operation performed when trying to convert a low bitrate DivX into a high bitrate DivX with VDub using the DivX4.12 compression? -
