  1. 8) I just spent 22 hours converting a divx 725,000 kbs movie it was orginaly 640 x 352 ...... converted it to mpeg 2 at 480 x 480
    My concern is time spent

Is there any way to have it remain that size for less time converting or another option perhaps???

  4. I suggest using CCE. You will get better quality and spend about half the time doing it. Since you have a DIVX source and want to make it a SVCD, I would use DVD2SVCD. They have an AVI input choice. Set it to CBR and you will encode in about real time. A 466 w/ 96ram is kinda low so it might be double the time of your movie. So let's say 4 hours. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

  5. Thnx for the info faceman I will check it out. do you use the constant bitrate in tmpegnc also? I have gone back and forth with it and the two pass vbs and the quality is about the same?

Do you always use the constant quality on the cce? and what min rate?

    thnx again

  6. When I encode from a DVD I use VBR with default DVD2SVCD settings (4 passes and 2530max), when I encode a DIVX file I use CBR for the speed and mainly b.c I'm not archiving it. For CBR I use 2500. CCE's speed is a great improvment over TMPGEnc's but when using VBR with 4 passes it takes about 14 hours. Try like 5min samples in CBR and VBR with CCE and see which you prefer. CBR has never let me down in quality.

Are you saying you have DIVX files on your hard drive and want to convert to VCD or SVCD? Or are you ripping a DVD into DivX and then to VCD or SVCD?

2 pass in TMPGEnc takes forever but it does make a nice video.
    Good luck

Try www.kvcd.net for tmpegnec templates that make excellent VCD/SVCD. Also, the forum there is very helpful for tmpegnec questions.

Be aware that encoding time depends on your settings. Since you have not supplied any it is hard to say what is wrong.

    Good luck
