ripped a few dvd's using different guides from this site. after converting the d2v into mpeg using tmpgenc, the mpeg looks and runs fine on my pc, but when I burn it using nero as a vcd and then throw it in my standalone dvd player, it has about 5 or 6 places throughout each of the 2 discs where the movie speeds up or slows down and the audio gets out of synch. what is the problem? I finally thought I was successful at a good dvdrip and now I'm totally puzzled.
by the way, i'm running a PIII 500 Mhz , 384 MB SDRAM 7200 rpm 40 Gig hard drive and polaroid 32x cd-rw drive.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

I assume you burnt at the highest speed where your burner can support which is usually not recommended.
The rule of thumbs is:
highest speed of writer / 2 or
highest speed of media / 2
with the media speed takes the higher priority.
This theory is based on some engineering practices used in manufacturing environment. Things always work less well at the extremes. -
hey vcd freak, thanks for the advice, but I rarely burn anything over 8x and my burner is a 32x, so I don't think that is my problem. if you have any more advice, feel free to give it. thanks..
