  1. ripped a few dvd's using different guides from this site. after converting the d2v into mpeg using tmpgenc, the mpeg looks and runs fine on my pc, but when I burn it using nero as a vcd and then throw it in my standalone dvd player, it has about 5 or 6 places throughout each of the 2 discs where the movie speeds up or slows down and the audio gets out of synch. what is the problem? I finally thought I was successful at a good dvdrip and now I'm totally puzzled.
by the way, i'm running a PIII 500 Mhz , 384 MB SDRAM 7200 rpm 40 Gig hard drive and polaroid 32x cd-rw drive.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

  2. I assume you burnt at the highest speed where your burner can support which is usually not recommended.

    The rule of thumbs is:

highest speed of writer / 2 or
highest speed of media / 2

with the media speed takes the higher priority.

This theory is based on some engineering practices used in manufacturing environment. Things always work less well at the extremes.

  3. hey vcd freak, thanks for the advice, but I rarely burn anything over 8x and my burner is a 32x, so I don't think that is my problem. if you have any more advice, feel free to give it. thanks..
