Hi there, let me tell you firstly that everything (not a lot) i learn't in dvd decoding etc.. its from this forums, so thanks a lot.
Here is my prob. i'm making a SVCD from a DVD wt DVD2SVCD following exactly the guides on this site, the quality is excelent but it takes me about 12-15 hours to do it, its a long time compared to wt other people say on this foruns, i guess (not sure) its 'couse of all the option for menus and chapters etc. is there a way of doing the SVCD with the same quality but only the movie w/o all the chapters etc..?
I know maybe u think its a stupid "? but i would really apreciate if u could help me there.
Thanks in advance and sorry about my English.

The "chapters n stuff" does not increase the time. It takes 12-15 hours because of encoding and the speed of your cpu. 2-Pass VBR encoding means that it encodes the movie twice to make sure that it has the bitrate allocated correctly, which is why it takes so long. If you want to decrease the encoding time, use a different method, like CQ or CBR.

my cpu is a pIII 866, do u think its from that, its to weak for doing this kind of stuff ? do u get the same quality wt CQ or CBR ?
thanks -
cyber_tek, it takes me 10 hours to do a 2-hour movie on my 800mhz, and that's using some 1-pass settings I found. So your time is very normal.

Yes, you can get the same quality with CQ and CBR, BUT file size increases. CBR stands for Constant Bit Rate, which means that the file will use a constant bitrate throughout the whole movie, even in parts where it doesnt need a high bitrate, so this way the file size of the movie will increase drastically, compared to 2-pass VBR. With CQ youll be able to set the quality level that you want, but you wont be able to know your final file size outcome, and CQ encoded files are usually larger than VBR, since your setting a quality that it must meet and it will use the max bitrate if it needs to.
It takes me about 16 Hours to encode a 120 min. movie using 2-pass VBR. I prefer 2-pass VBR as it gives ME the best results, and im willing to wait the long encoding times for a good result. (I know im gonna get pounded on now by the CQ guys!...lol)PlaiBoi
