Can someone tell me the differences between these encoders, which one they like better etc.
And tell me why one CCE costs 2 grand and another a couple of hundred, then there's TMPEGenc which is very inexpensive.
Thanks,

I can't say anything about CCE (since I don't have the $2,500 to buy it and try it) but I have used Tmpeg many, many times and it is great. Even though it is "freeware", I purchased it (for $48) because it is one of the few programs that I have seen that is well worth every penny.
Some will claim that video streams compressed using CCE are better than Tmpeg and vice-a-versa. I think they are both quality but Tmpeg is the best for the price. -
I have used both and don't see much difference between them at high bitrate MPEG2. However, CCE is less blocky at lower bitrates.
I use it to create XSVCDs at 720x576 (PAL) with a bitrate of 4000kbps from miniDV with great results. TMPGEnc tends to show blocks at the same settings.
The biggest difference between them is speed. CCE is about 3-4 times faster.
Using the above settings my system encoded 25 minutes of AVI in about 4 hours. CCE took 1 hour 15 minutes. -
@Scottymac:
So you topic tread doesnt get way off point. Please do a search through old posts. The ideals of both sides have been hashed out time & time again. -
CCE is faster. CCE is able to do more then 2 pass encoding so quality is not an issue. I think that is the biggest difference.
for the most part, if your only doing vcd then tmpg should be fine. but if you want to make high quality mpeg-2 files then no question CCE is the way to go. -
You can make high quality SVCD very easily using TMPGEnc. Do not believe that you have to pay out several thousand dollars! 8)
Take a look at http://www.svcd.cc/index.htm or at the guides on this site using TMPGEnc. -
TMPGEnc is definitely a good encoder.
Most experienced encoders consider CCE to offer better quality if you are willing to learn how to optimise each encode.
I agree with Kdiddy in search the forum for previous posts. There is an absolutely plethora of opinions on this issue.

CCE is more compatible with most systems, runs faster and more stable. That's what you pay extra for.

CCE is more compatiable? Don't get that part.
TMPGEnc = Slow
CCE = Fast
TMPGEnc = Free
CCE = Far from free
TMPGEnc = Great VCD encodes
CCE = Poor VCD encodes
TMPGEnc = Great SVCD encodes
CCE = Great SVCD encodes
people will argue CCE provides better MPG2 encoding, while maybe true, doesn't matter both are great, TMPGEnc is free to boot. -
