I just finished burning Spider-Man into a VCD, encoded as it should and if I'm not mistaken I put a menu on it with a neat pic of the webhead in the background. The movie played fine in my stand-alond DVD player, but no signs of the menu OR the background?!?! Where did they go? I then watched it in WinDVD, and voilá, it opened my cool background with the menu and the header and footer I put. So obviously, Nero did burn it right, so why doesnt it appear in my DVD player?![]()
If it helps my DVD player is Apex, and whenever you put a VCD movie in it, it says "PBC On", and then you have to turn it off so you can watch the movie.Thanks!

This won't help much, I have a similar problem with menus in Nero. I can't seem to select from the menu in the DVD, but works just fine in WinDVD.

I use Ulead DVD Movie Factory (Free 30-day trial from www.ulead.com, and I've seen it for $29 at CompUSA) and it does great VCD menus. I've played it back on an Apex 70c without any problem. Try that and see if that works.
I've also seen that "PBC On" statement before (especially on SVCDs). I just "hide" it, along with the time code and chapter numbers. I've never turned it "off" before.
What is PBC, anyway? -
Thanks I will try out Ulead. By the way, PBC stands for "Playback Control". 8)

Okay I tried Ulead Movie Studio, great program and seems very good, in the preview, everything seemed in perfect order, but it didnt burn all of it.
It said "Failed to burn disc". What could have been wrong? Please help.

I know this might seem like a stupide reply but can you see the movie at all. Because I know that when you press play then the menu pops up and then you select whatever number your movie is on the disc. On miy Mintek player the menu doesnt pop up unless I press play, Im sure u porbly tried it, jus tryin to help out.
You're not really going into an astroid field are you?!?

Gah O.O I'm surprised this thread went as far as it did without anybody saying this;
PBC is what enables menus and chapters. If you turn off PBC, the dvd player will skip right over the segment items and play all of the sequence items in their physical order on the disk. PBC on is what enables menus and chapters and all that fun stuff. Solution: leave PBC on. -
Thank you so much, I left PBC on, pressed Play, and then came my intro and right after that, my menu! I used to turn PBC off each time I inserted a VCD into my DVD player.
That helped a lot. Thank all of you. 8)
