  1. Hi there,

I have been through this forum quiete a few times and somehow i still hv problems when converting my avi files. Files being out of syc. etc etc u hv heard it all before. The most popular way to fix this seems to be only by using various programmes in order to get one movie converted. I wonder whether anyone will ever make one software that does the job.

Currently i am using tmpgenc a lot. This is not due to my own choice, but simply because it seems to be the one software that has certain features in it. My question though is this. Is there a step by step guide on the perferct setup for tmpgenc? I saw a lot of guides which explain what each box means, which to a newbie like me is not necessarily the best way to learn. Any ideas where I can find a guide that actually goes through each field giving a setting that works for most conversions? If anyone knows of such a guide please let me know.

I would really like to find another software too that is a bit faster than tmpgenc.

Looking forward to your replies / suggestions.

there is no such thing as the perfect setup--it totally depends on your source quality, your method of playback, your standalone(what is it compatible with--VCD, SVCD, XVCD...)
the best way to learn is to go through the guides, read the forum a lot, and to experiement--change settings, and see what effects they have on the final video. I would suggest using CDRW's if possible while you do this. good luck, and be patient
what are you askin' me for...
    I'm an idiot!

  3. I do't know of such a guide I am afraid.

IMHO, the easiest way of using TmpGenc is to use the supplied templates (forget the wizard!). By selecting an appropriate template that matches both your source material and your required output format it is difficult to go wrong. For instance if your source is a divx, check the fps and select the appropriate (S)VCD template. Once you have sucessfully encoded a few movies like this and gained a bit of confidence then is the time to possibly start tweaking these templates. Load unlock.mcf (found in the TmpGenc extras folder) and adjust one setting at a time. Once you have found settings that you like, save it as your own template.

    Hope this helps
