  1. These are the tools I use making a VCD or XVCD:
    -DVD Decrypter
    -DVD2AVI
    -TMPGEnc
    -VFAPI Codec
    -Virtual Dub
    -VCD Imager
    -CDR Win
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Now the problem is that when I was playing "Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back" on the DVD2AVI frame by frame it started to show both the french and english format of the film.
How can I rip only the english format of this film.
If anyone has ripped this DVD before, please give me some tips on how to solve this problem.

  2. Bubsy94,

I ripped Jay and Silent Bob with no problems whatsoever, however I used SmartRipper (you might try that). I did not have the same problems with switching language formats that you have had. However, I did have problems with the film because the field order changes about 2/3 of the way through it. If you do not compensate for this, the ending will be jerky and kind of hard to watch. I don't know how to correct the problem with TMPGenc (although I think the IVTC filter will do it, but it will take a while). However to correct the error, I used Avisynth frame serving to CCE 2.50 with the Decomb filter and got great results. Good luck!

  3. Same problem here...AND I ripped with Smartripper. Tried another movie, Kate and Leopold...did the same thing...right from the beginning when trying to encode with TMPGEnc. I just gave up though.....I figure it is something in the copyright...

Use IfoEdit to strip out the other languages and you'll be fine. Scary movie 2 did the same thing but after i stripped out the french language pack it didnt do it anymore.

You can use DVD2AVI to manually scan the movie. Mark down the 'VOB ID' used when displaying french format. Then use IFOedit to strip out the unwanted format.

This is a rare DVD as it is one of the few that is progressive AND interlace. If you use TMPGenc to re-encode this movie you will need to split the movie and process the respective halves accordingly. This can be a chore so I would recommend pet_head's method.

    Hope this helps.

  7. I'm kind of new with this ifoedit tool
Is there a good guide to help me out with this tool, so I could resolve my Jay and Silent Bob problem

  8. The guide I used can be found at http://www.doom9.org/. Goto "The Guides" then "DVD and miniDVD Guide" and scroll down to "IfoEdit guides".

  9. hi all,
i just ripped jay & silent bob to vcd 2.0 about 2 days ago, successfully, using:

    smartripper
    flask (with cce)
    vcdeasy (for menu/chapters)
    cdrwin

i didnt get that problem mentioned, with the jittery video, etc.

    strange....
whole thing took around 4 hrs to encode.

  10. I suspect that flask (with cce) ran a decomb process on "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" making the issue moot.

  11. I was using DVD2AVI to frameserve to TMPGEnc (the results are astoundinginly better than Flask) and that is where I was getting the problem. I will try flask tonight. I am trying to work with Flask to get better results but I haven't been able to.

  12. Alright I fully understand how to use ifoedit and I got those unwanted angles out .
But now I'm having sync problems. It's wierd in the beginning the characters voices were going alright, but then later on the voices were out of sync.
Is there a way I could solve this?

  13. Bubsy94,
You will need to give a quick overview of your ripping process. Are you stripping the streams in IfoEdit? How you process your movie will shed some light on where the problem begins.

Here is the process I follow...

    1) Smartripper: Rip the entire DVD to HDD
    2) DVD2AVI: Scan movie map VOB ids, test for progressive and interlace.
    3) IfoEdit: Strip everything but the movie and the DolbyD stream.

At this point I will burn to DVD is it fits. Else...

    4) Smartripper: Enable stream processing and rip the DVD image created by IfoEdit to M2V and AC3.
    5) TMPGEnc: Re-encode (You can use your encoder of choice here)
    6) SpruceUp: Rejoin M2V with AC3 & burn with Nero or PrimoDVD

In case your wondering why I demux the IfoEdit DVD image rather than the source. It is because I have had trouble in the past using Smartripper to demux multi-angled DVDs. (weird) For whatever reason this extra step I take has shielded me from having any problems with my rips.

  14. I'm ripping the DVD so I could make a VCD copy, but in any case this is my step-up:

-But first "Jay and Silent Bob" is a dual-layer DVD and it has Progressive and interlaced playback-

1)DVD decrypter- Rip the .IFO and .VOB files with this tool.
2)IFOedit- Took out the unwanted angles and rewrote the .IFO and .VOB files.
3)DVD2AVI- then I used this tool to view the .VOB files (if I got the unwanted angles out, and saved it as a .d2v file and also aside I have a .wav file.
4)TMPGEnc- take the .d2v file and save it as a .tpr
5)VFAPI Codec- take the .tpr and convert it to a .avi
6)VirtualDub-take the .avi and .wav file and make direct streams for video and audio, also at -options- I check -sync to audio-
7)TMPGEnc-Then I take the Virtualdub .avi file and encode it to MPEG-1 format. After that process I go to MPEG tools and form the MPEG file to Video CD format.
8)VCD Imager- form it to a .bin & .cue file
    9)CDRWin- burn it
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said it plays fine in the start but later on it goes out of sync.
Could u help me resolve this problem dmonty.

  15. Wow, sooo many steps.

You increase risk of sync issues when you increase the number of process applied while the audio and video are seperated. For this reason I have always favored a simpler method:

    1) DVD decrypter: Rip movie to HDD
    2) XMPEG + Divx: Convert to AVI
    3) TMPEGenc: Use this guide http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm
    4) Burn it

If you don't have XMpeg you can download a copy from www.Doom9.org
