I've had the Pioneer for a couple of years now and decided to make a home video as a VCD. I created the MPG file and then used Nero to burn it on a TDK CDR. Unfortunately, when I tried to play it on my standalone Pioneer, it keeps coming up with "No Disc" - doesn't seem to like it for some reason.
So, I tried various permutations : burnt at 8X, tried Verbatim CDR, tried SVCD, tried both NTSC as well as PAL.... have I missed something ? Can I play the VCD with Windows Media player - I can't seem to with the one for Win XP ( V8 ) ? Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I'm in the UK.

only one question;
Are these discs finalized?
I ask this as I own the same pioneer model dv-525 & it has played everything i have made on every single type of cheap/expensive/off-brand type of media & every dvd w/ only an audio sync prob on "Dark City" .... so I ask only that one question. Of course if this DVD player of yours has been modded or firmware altered that's a very different story, indeed.
Try someone else's VCD & if it plays look at your authoring software or technique. -
I think DOGLOOP might be on to something...I've got a DV525, and it plays anything at all. when I started making vcds, I was using roxio to author them, and would get the disc error, but once I switched to Nero, no problems--any media I've used has worked great, and any speed I burn at is fine too. do you have the latest version of Nero? is the firmware of your CD writer updated? if yes to those, maybe try using VCDeasy to generate an image, and then file-->burn image in Nero.
what are you askin' me for...
I'm an idiot! -
Thanks guys,
Here's the update on this one - I bought it in October 1999 with a Paragon chip to make it multi-region. I managed to get an "official" VCD of a movie and even that didn't run. I think that the Paragon modification has caused the DVD to stop reading VCDs !
By the way, I burnt an audio CD-R and that was ok.
