This is for cdi functions which are used for interactive features, most notably hotspot style buttons similar to what dvds use. There are some software dvd/vcd players which can recognize these functions, at least to a certain extent, but the purpose of these functions is for playback on hardware cdi players. Unless you have a cdi player or watch your movies on your pc then you can pretty much ignore these functions.

Quite alot can be done with cdi functions. You can even program simple video games with it but its kinda an obsolete format. Unless you have the need for interactive features in your vcds than you can pretty much ignore this.

  3. As what adam said.

The CD-i application is technically required on a VCD (not SVCD though) to make it compliant. The historical reason for this was so that the then existing consumer base of CD-i players would be able to play the newer VCD format.

If you have a stand-alone VCD or DVD player, this is redundant.

On the other hand, there is no reason not to include the CD-i application on a VCD and I believe that you should. Just leave the options to the default.
