I made a cvd sample but I'm not sure if the cvd subs works correct cause I can't test them. So if you have a dvdplayer that support svcd cvd subs please test this
www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm#samplecvd
The beta cvd sample, it is a matrix trailer.
Then please reply here if the subs works and if you could select 2 audio tracks.

Hey Baldrick
Tested the sample on my Yukai DVD player and it works fine, 2 audio tracks the first one is normal and the second is with some sort of echo on it.
Subtitles green with a white outline starts of with Wooooooooooooooooooooah
the dream world blah blah blah
the only thing is they take up about the left hand third of the screen, rather than go right across it jumps down so you have two lines, was that intended or is it probably just how my DVD does SVCD subs, never done it myself before never had the need too.
Hope that helps
-
Thanks.
I think I fixed the subtitle so it should be viewed over the entire image now. So if you could download it again, www.vcdhelp.com/svcd#samplecvd
it should say cvdsamplewith1subtitleand2audiotracksbeta3.zip and be about 13 MB compressed (reduced the clip to one minute). -
I saw it Yes it Works
That one is perfect the subtitles are centred now, hope that helped your tests or whatever you are doing
Im off to format and reinstall this computer now DVD ripping aint good for a hard drive.
-
Thanks. I think it will be the final test sample then.

Subs did not work for me .. tried on a vvd 600AD and 700AD (same
as Apex). Audio track 1 was normal stereo, Audio track 2 had some sort of spatial echo which sounded a bit tinny. I can view subs created through
DVD2SVCD and burned to nero just fine (at CVD or SVCD res) as
well as commercial SVCD's - see below..
NOTE: I am using a 34cm test LCD vid sceen which does have
problems with displaying subtitles. The LCD overscans with the
result that many subtitles are cut off on the bottom - but I can
see them - maybe yours are out of range?
using beta 3 -
I think i moved the subs high enough in the picture...maybe I could move them a bit more. The second audiotrack should sound little wierd, I just added some strange filter so you hear any different between them. I will replace it with some other later.
-
On the first beta it played on the Audiovox 1680 (portable, CVD capable by design), the Apex 1500 and the Philips 711. It wasn't until I played on the Philips that I figued out there was 2 english tracks, #2 with an echo.
Subs did not work on any of the machines but I can only see the VCDimager test disc subs if alot of text as they are far below picture.
I assume you used 44 khz audio as 48 khz does not work on the Philips. True?
You'll have to let us know how you authored them.
Suggestion - use Swedish sound track on #1 or something more noticable?? Finnish maybe ;^)Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
I moved the subs a bit so if you could test beta4 now
www.vcdhelp.com/svcd#samplecvd
and I added a soundtrack to the second audio track..guess which...
I'm using maestrosbt and winsubmux to add subs and author with nero.
I used 44 khz because that is the standard. -
Nada. Same result. No Subs. Got worried and double checked with
a copy of diehard - all ok. Both test units host c-cube technology
so they should be 100% CVD ready.
using beta 4
Audio, both 1 & 2 work fine btw. What is that theme music? -
The theme is from V.
I don't know what is wrong with the cvd subs...so many options in all tools and I can't test it directly. Anyone else that would like to create a sample that I could use? if so please use some trailer. -
Everyone buy a Yukai or Mustek DVD player
It seems im the only one who can see both the subs and hear both audio tracks, actually i do recommend this little player as its only about £90, i got it for free, came with the PC (Package deal off Time Computers) it plays almost anything, my 2 disc DVD rips are usually 720x576 5 pass VBR 300min 4000max and the play perfect and look nearly as good as the original DVD, it even plays CBR 6000kbps, might do higher havn't checked, only thing it cant do is High Res Mpeg1, so no Kwags Templates.
Sorry if this is a bit off topic Baldrick, but i thought people who cant play certain things would like to look at this player if they saw it, DVD picture quality isn't great, but i dont use it for that I them.
Another thing, theres nothing wrong with were you put the subs they're in the same place as DVD subs are on my DVD player, it could be because its CVD and the resolution is a bit more stretched then SVCD and some player move them.
Just formatted now, damn this site looks crap at 640x480 16 colours, Nvidia website here i come -

I knew it! "V"!!
I lost my connect when I was about ta post it earlier! Shoot!
Anyways, back to your thread.
I burned your clip w/ Nero 5.5.3.5
DVD: Apex AD-1500 NTSC over here.
After playing it, these were my findings:
* Sorry, no 5.1 suround sound system connected
* Track 1, I heard good quality stereo sound
* Track 2, I heard theam to "V" !!
* but, NO subtitles would display.
* Quality: Excellent ( notice you must be using PAL, as "color space" was dif. )
* One thing though, I couldn't extract the *.mpg w/ ISObutster v0.99.6
* any suggestions ??
Thanks
-vhelp -
Am i the only person to see the subtitles, and i thought these Apex things played everything.
My DVD detects it as NTSC as you can set it to convert the signal to Pal or NTSC or set it to Auto which displays the original setting and i get a squashed picture indicating its NTSC, also check it on your comp using Power DVD its 352x480 29.97fps.

Iso Buster probably doesn't support Nero Image files,they're not that common, its the first one ive burnt, i dont have the Iso Buster so im only guessing, but the main image file formats are usually Bin,Iso,ccd,bwi files.
-
Ok, now the Apex 1500 and the Philips 711 both play multiple audio tracks. Can't get the Audiovox 1680 to switch audio. All three do NOT play subtitles
Used Nero 5.5.9.0 CDRW 12x All players play PAL or NTSC on NTSC TV (here in US) so no problems there.
The V music is from the TV series. Personally I like the movie theme much better. Good choice though.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
marty,
I only have isobuster, but use it very seldom. Neverthe less, do you
know of any other apps to extract mpg files w/out problems?? as you
seem to have done it successfully, hence your powerdvd statement!
I took another look at baldricks .nrg sampe in my Apex, and. . .
* my ad-1500 supports built-in, english/french/spanish/chinese/japanese
subtitle'ing
* pressing the DVD Digest button displays a list ie,
1 Intro - - plays main clip or track 1
2 Disk - - bug, play only 1 blocks and stops
3 Track - - will play track 2, & disply in sqare cards, 3 blocks by 3 blocks
4 Exit
* or, by pressing the Audio button, you can shuffle through all 4
channels - but, in cvc sample, 2 audio tracks were used in this test.

I never said i extracted the mpg, i just left the disc in the CD Writer after i burnt it with Nero, and opened it up with Power DVD as a disc and checked the statistics that way.
i dont know of any programs to extract mpgs from Nero Image files as i have never tried it before, i usually deal with Bin files and use VCD Gear.
-
I just burned the last sample posted, nice music, but the subtitles are far too high now, they're about 3 inches/7.5cm off the bottom of the screen and thats on a 21" TV.
The second sample was the best for subtitles, audio fine on them all.
A quit post edit here, just found out VCD Gear does support NRG image files, also says Dreamcast ones tooso if you want to extract the mpeg get this, nice little program too.

I have a A160 Panasonic and the picture was very good but was a bit jerky and sound was jerky as well... I have tried SVCD and the player did not like it but this format is sooooo close in playing perfectly its driving me crazy... I have tried the 'trick' to get A160 to play and it does not work.. tried all sorts of discs and burning speeds and all fail... My question is what is different from VCD , CVD and SVCD... as I have no problem playing VCD but if I can play with the settings in CVD it might work...
As I said this demo ALMOSTTT played perfectly....
Thanks -
If you can paly VCD perfectly but not SVCD and CVD is near then, its probably a resolution thing, VCD is 352x240\288, CVD is 352x480\576 and SVCD is 480x480\576, VCD is Mpeg1 and CVD ans SVCD are both Mpeg2, you could try Mpeg1 at CVD or SVCD resolution, and you would instantly notice a difference, but if you increase the resolution remember to increase the bitrate too, or you will end up with a blocky image.
Try encoding something short like a trailer using these settings 352x480 if your using NTSC or 352x576 if your using Pal, use Mpeg1, encode it with a minimum bitrate of 1500kbps Video 160kbps audio and mulitplex it as a Non-Standard VCD, use CBR as VBR is too time consuming for tests, try this in your DVD player and see what you get, if this works then try SVCD resolution.

I recorded beta 4 (I believe) on CD-RW with Nero and tested on 2 DVD players:
Panasonic A160-EG PAL
- Great picture quality.
- Jerky video and sound; smooth play in parts with black background and some text (I could be wrong about this because P160 only works well with some CD-RW brands. It has no CD-R support.)
- Only Matrix audio track with L and R channels selectable.
- No subtitle available.
Pioneer DV-535 PAL
- Great picture quality.
- Perfect video and sound.
- Two audio tracks selectable with L and R channels selectable for each one. "V" track sounds great, with no echo.
- No subtitle available neither the remote or DVD menu.
I hope it helps. :P
Edit: I believe both DVD players don't support subtitles in SVCD so that's why they don't display subtitles. -
I was gonna buy another DVD player, but after this i think i'll stay with the Yukai.
One more thing, everyone on here keeps saying great picture, but i thought the picture was average, looked like a DIVX encode to me, is it Baldrick.
