Just a quick question, please can someone advise me on the best tool to fix mpeg sound synchronisation problems?

My soundtrack is the right length, but in the mpeg starts a little too soon or too late, ie. the error at the end of the movie is no worse than at the beginning.

What tool will enable me to remux the vid & sound, but specify an offset +/- for the start of the soundtrack?

    Thanks for your help

How did the mpeg get like that ?

If it was converted with TMPGEnc from an AVI, then the AVI had a non standard bitrate and the audio needs to be saved as a uncompressed WAV for later use.

TMPGEnc can also re-encode the movie with a time delay +/-

  3. Use TPMGenc source range, and then use audio gap correct to be able to find out how far out of sync your file is. Make some test cuts to be sure. When you know the correct amount of offset you need, you can re-encode the file with TMPGenc with the new offset and your file will be in sync. This is only for files that are out of sync the same amount the whole time, not for the sort of problem where it starts in sync, but gets out of sync as time goes by.

    Thanks for your replies

I think I've found a solution that doesn't require the movie to be re-encoded...

Using an mpeg editor I removed a few frames from the beginning of the movie and then re-muxed it with the original length soundtrack. Hey presto all is now in sync.

I guess this will work fine if the soundtrack isn't stretched and the error not too great.

You could also add frames if necessary by inserting a few blank frames before the first scene.

Just for the curious at heart (like me) what editor did you use?

    M2-Edit

I've used several other editors, but M2-Edit is reasonable easy to use and is accurate - for example, using TMPGEnc to cut and merge I've noticed the program doesn't always cut exactly where you specify.

Last time I use M2 Edit, the loaded mpeg was saved with a non standard bitrate, then the burning program got upset
