  1. Hi all

Bit new to all this VCD stuff, and just kind of getting my feet wet now.

I have just burned a VCD by using Toast Titanium and a .bin file from a PC. All works fine when played back on a PC or Mac using players, but when I try it on my Philips 612 DVD Player at home, it comes out Black and White.

Is there something I have done wrong in the actual burning of the .bin file, or is it a problem with my DVD player perhaps? Would the movie format be wrong for my DVD player (eg PAL / NTSC problems etc)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

  2. It is almost certainly a PAL/NTSC problem. My guess would be the VCD is in Pal format so your DVD player outputs a PAL signal which your TV cannot handle. Try it on a friends system if you can find one who has a multi standard TV.

  3. Hmmm, forgot to mention I'm in the UK - sorry.

In that case my guess would be that the VCD may be in NTSC format? My DVD and alas, my TV are both PAL - so would that be the problem?

Does anyone know a SAF(ish) way to get the Philips DVD612 to play VCD's in the NTSC format? I couldn't find a way of doing via any options within the DVD player.

    Thanks again all

Your DVD player may have three settings: NTSC, PAL, and Auto. I keep all three of my DVD players set to AUTO, and I no longer have to remember which discs (or clips on a disc) are in PAL or NTSC ... Everything plays correctly and in color.

  5. Ok, if you are in the UK (like me) then many if not most DVD players can output a PAL signal from NTSC disks, have a look at your DVD players menu
