I am using the kvcd template to make vcds, and I am using VBR 2-pass. I am wondering what the difference is between the following:

    Average bitrate: 1600
    Max bitrate: 2000
    Min bitrate: 1200

    -------------------------

    Av. br: 1600
max br: 2200 (more range hi to lo)
    min br: 1000

    -------------------------

    av. br: 1600
max br: 2000 (more range to high than to low)
    min br: 1500

    ----------------------------

I want to make the best use of this technique, that's why I am asking. Also, will I get a higher quality with VBR than with CQ (CQ is the default in the KVCD template)

  2. CQ mode will give you higher quality than VBR. But the file size with CQ will be unpredictable ( sort of ).
You can read about CQ vs. VBR modes here:
