  1. Ok. slight problem, hopefully someone here has encountered this.
i have a dvd which is certainly scratched. i'm trying to use dvd2svcd to copy it to svcd.

    1) i tried using rip with internal routines first, it would rip the first 3 vobs then it would slow to a crawl on vob 4 (there are 5 in total) and essentially it would stop.

    2) i tried activating the option to rip with Vstrip, this didn't seem to have any problems, it never stopped nor did it slow down, only when the svcd creation was finished i only had one set of bin/cue files and half a movie. it seems that only vobs 1-3 and part of vob4 got ripped.

my question is: is it possible that if the dvd is unrippable that Vstrip would skip over part of the movie without giving me an error message? and secondly, does anyone know of anything i can try to do to remedy this problem since i'd really like to get a copy of this dvd.

    thanks for any help.

  2. for scratched dvds I've tried toothpaste and all those remedies. Bottomline is yes you can configure certain rippers to ignore reading errors but then you'll have encoding errors, etc. So if it's scractched and a simple wash under the sink won't clean it then that paticular dvd is hopeless.
