Sure it does... you probably have a problem with the installation of your drive. What does Windows report?

My A03 works great with 5.5.8.2
ASUS P4PE
windoze XP SP1
Radeon 8500DV
M-Audio delta 1010LT
2 x WD1000BB
Plextor 1210A
SoFo Vegas Video 3 -
You might want to check if the drive is operating in DMA or PIO Only mode. Whatever its on now, switch to the other and reboot. It's a common problem and is discussed on Pioneer's website.

The A03 can only operate in PIO mode. What does the Windows Hardware Manager say about this drive? Can you put a CD-ROM into it and read stuff on it?

That's incorrect. The drive is fully capable of running in DMA (mode-2) as well.
