  1. Which quality if better VHS or VCD(mpeg1)?
I found that the quality of VHS recorded from DV is a lot better than DV to mpeg1. Am i correct?

  2. It depends on the encoder. If you use a realtime hardware encoder, the quality will not be as good as a software encoder which take much longer.

Yup will agree there . But there is also xVCD and sVCD to consider PLUS once your DV is on a CD/DVD it can be copied infinitly with no generation loss. VHS cannot offer that !

If you are after quality from your DV source try miniDVD ( 1/2 mpeg2 spec of 352 *480 (ntsc) ) and put 20 to 30 minutes at a high bitrate on a CD (about 3500+) - ***not playable on most DVD standalone though.

  4. I would like to know the resolution of VHS and also of NTSC television. This will be helpful when I'm looking at capture cards.
