    Hi

I read somewere that TI (texas instruments) developed a Chip capable of decoding divx. That chip was made for the new Dvd standalone players, the problem is that the brands were afraid of puting them in their machines for fear of possible lawsuits by the Movies studios.

Does anyone knows anything about this???

They also said that in 3 to 6 mounths those player would be available.

Is this wright??? I hope it is! and cheap too!

    speed72,

    but why??
What's wrong with VCD or SVCD??

    * divX is not STANDARD, and NOT legal, no matter what website you go to, that
claim to be legal. It's all based on the old divX that started some time ago.
ie, no standard in bitrate, video resoluiton size, ect.
    where'as, VCD IS standardized, ie, 352x240, 1150bitrate, 224audio, etc.
same for SVCD, and DVD. These didn't start out as a hack.

    But, divX has NO standard.
You need a standard to set things up in motion.

Besides, divX started out as a hack, where'as VCD did not.
There is just TOO MANY WISHFULL thinking on a divX dvd player. sheesh!!
Well, that's how I see it. I don't care fore divX in any capacity. It's not
a standard - never will be. But, to each his/her own. Keep wishing
for support on junk. he, he...

    Hi guys.

First of all were drifting from the main question here. Does anyone heard about the TI chip and itīs implementation on DVD players.

Second, I donīt understand what do you (vhelp) have agains Divx. The quality is FAR better than any (s)vcd, audio or video. And if there is a chip that decodes that Divx no matter itīs resolution or version, whats the problem???? Standarts.... well if far to early in the processe for any standart. Anyway the Dvd has several diferences. Itīs mpeg2 but the bitrate can vary, the audio can vary.... If itīs a hack... yes it seems to be, but how wants to be a prisioner of the big corporations, and their rules???

  8. Yes, there are scads of mini PC's and motherboards popping up that have on-board TV-OUT; not only DivX output, but gamer (sort-of)/web surfer/MP3 jukebox (w/TV OUT for visualizations!) ... (cough-cough) file-sharer ...

I've been thinking of building my own ... here are a few of my personal favorites:

KITS based on Shuttle FV**/FS** mobos:

(I've seen some cool variations of the gBox on ebay, but not on the AMS site)

Kits based on Mini-ITX (*6.75" square mobo w/ integrated VIA C3 533 or 800 mHz):

    Mini-ITX board/cpu:

Or go custom! look at this:
