  1. Hello guys,
I am a newbie to all this so please bear with me. I have a few vcd's that don't play right on my dvd player. I get grey images and it is constantly moving vertically. However, it does play other vcd's (spiderman, black hawk down, ali, etc...) perfectly. I have a philips dvd751 if that helps. Can someone explain to me what is wrong and how to fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  2. can you play them fine on your computer? if they play fine, then it could be that your standalone dvd player doesn't like the brand of cd-r media you have

  3. They all play perfectly on my pc. I used the same media for the vcd's that do work on it. Do you think it may be a region problem or something like that? Any further assitstance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

  4. try doing a test burn on a cd-rw and c if your dvd player still has problems (it could just be a fluke w/ that particular cd-r)

Some thoughts what might be wrong:

    1) How do you burn the CDs? Try reducing the burning speed. Are you sure your .mpg is VCD and not SVCD, try burning as an SVCD instead.

    2) PAL/NTSC? If you live in the NTSC region, your TV might have problems displaying PAL VCD. Likewise, some PAL TVs have problems with NTSC VCDs/SVCDs

    3) If you have downloaded the movie, it might have corrupted during download. You can try to de-multiplex and re-multiplex the file to see if it helps.

  7. Hey guys,
It turned out to be my DVD PLayer. Apparently the Philips DVD-751 isn't very good on playing VCDs. I bought a Mintek 1600 player for $65 and it works like a charm. thanks for all the help in assisting me.
