  1. hopefully i have registered properly and got all my machine details right.... but anyway i have a slight problem

i ripped a dvd using smart ripper, encoded it into mpeg-1 using flask mpeg, and then burnt it to a vcd with nero.

the problem is that when i play it on either my computer or my actual dvd player (the standalone one) ...its hard to explain

the best way to put would be like this - the video goes fine for about 30 frames and then jerks for less than a millisecond, goes fine again, then jerks, and it does this for the whole movie completely uniformly. it might not sound like much but when you watch the whole thing it kinda gets on your nerves... - ive burnt severall other vcds before, and this hasn't happened... maybe its got something to do with the settings on flask mpeg?

    does anyone have any suggestions?

    thanks!

  2. Check your source file and destination file framerates. There is a very good chance one is PAL and the other NTSC.
This causes the symptoms you describe.
To fix it, simple way is to ensure source and destination framerates match. Complex solution is PAL-NTSC (or vice versa) conversion.

  3. thanks, but i dont quite understand what you just said... remember, i am essentially COMPLETELY new to this dvd-vcd burning ripping scene

so... if you could explain a bit more in detail if you have a bit of time?

  4. If you are so new to all this that you don't even know what framerate means then I suggest you do a bit of background reading before trying to go any further. Video encodeing/converting is a complex process and requires a certain amount of learning before you can be successful at it all the time. A liitle knowledge goes a long way and even the most expensive/sophisticated software products currently on the market cannot work magic and relieve you of the need to know at least a little about the subject matter.

I would suggest you start with the WHAT IS section listed on the left of this page. Then move on to the HOWTO's for the relevant things that interest you. If you are still having problems searching the forums should be tried before posting questions. The people that frequent these forums are a knowledgable bunch (and most put me to shame in that respect) but it is not possible to handhold evey newbie that comes along. You will get a lot more respect if you can show you have tried to find the answers for yourself first.

    My opinion anyway

  5. i know what framerates are... im just trying to con an all encompassing answer out of someone... (im lazy)

how do you check source and destination frame rates
i set the flask mpeg encoder to 25fps
    is that source?

then destination is the output mpeg file, i suppose... and how do you tell what the frame rate of that is?

if it is different, how would you change it so that it is the same?

  6. source framerate - open the file in virtualdub and look at file properties under file menu

Destination framerate - determined by the settings of the encoder

try and make sure they match

And don't be lazy - people round here don't appreciate lazy!
