I've played with various frame rates, but haven't been able to get ffmpegX to actually start encoding my RMVB file -- I'm obviously doing something wrong but even with the help of the numerous posts here, have not been able to figure it out.

According to ffmpegX, format of the video in my source file is: RV40, 640x352, 23.000 fps. Current target video format window reads: mencoder mpeg4, 640x352, 1163 kbps, 23.000 fps, no crop.

I get endless frame skipping (with occasional notes on individual frames).

Very grateful for your help (and patience!).

    Addendum to previous:

Looking at Progress log, found the following, which I should've included in my original post (sorry!):

  3. Your source file is probably 24 fps, incorrectly recognized as 23 fps by ffmpegX. As your output is set to 23 fps, mencoder skips every 24th frame.

    Thanks for your response.

I have changed the output to 24/23.976 without success.

    Further options?

    Amities.

Frame skipping happens when you convert RMVB to any other format using ffMpegX. Its absolutely normal. I get the same thing when converting the file too. Just let it finish running. It might take a while though depending on the speed of your computer and source video.

To ascertain the correct framerate, open the file in real player, and press command-i. Under streams, the encoded framerate should be displayed. Use the same one or the closest default in ffMpegX. For instance, if the RMVB is encoded at 24fps, use NTSC film. If the framerate is entered wrongly in ffMpegX, audio might end up being out of sync.

Thanks so much for this advice.

I checked in real player, and the original frame rate was indeed 23fps. I then persisted in ffmpegx and let the process (and frame skipping) run, and after 8 minutes, it finished. The audio is slightly out of sync, but the video is certainly watchable.

    I greatly appreciate your help.
