Is it possible to correct the aspect ratio of a Centropy without re-encoding?
I have a PAL-movie of which the aspect ratio is wrong, the images are stretched vertically (black bars on top and bottom are to thin). This is *not* a PAL-NTSC issue.
I tried to correct this using Restream and setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 (which I think normally isn't used for SVCD) and the result looked good on my PC. But my (PAL) DVD-player didn't like it and gave a very shaky picture.
Is there another way? I don't want to re-encode because of quality loss. If not, I'll just have to correct this using the settings on my TV.

I'm afraid you probably will have to re-encode. Since TMPGEnc is the closest thing we have to VDub for mpegs, that's probably going to be the only way. But don't fear, the loss of quality is minimal if you use HIGH QUALITY motion search and set to NTSCfilm. 25 fps to 23.976 fps uses all the pertinent information without substituting extra frames. And since it is mpeg to mpeg, good input will equal good output without having to spend too much time and processor cycles on video decompression.
