    Hi, this is my problem:

I converted Hi8-Videos from AVI to mpeg2 via TMPEGEnc. On my Standalone DVD-player I cannot forward / rewind and every time the SVCD starts without audio. To hear the audio I have to change from play to play 1/2 or 1/4 and back several times.

Remuxing with bbmpeg had the same results. Where can I find help?

    Thanx and C U

Don't know about the audio problem; but my solution to the SVCD FF/REW situation is to use VCDEasy to create chapters: that way, you can just advance/go back to the next/previous chapter.- you can set the chapters to whatever length you want - 1 min., 5 min, etc.
BTW, what player do you have, and does it even support the SVCD format?

My DVD-Player is a Yamaha DVD S510 (I think its a better one). Once the movie starts and I get the audio I can watch the whole movie; only problem is FF/REW.

Couple things you might try (If you haven't already)
    - make sure the "add SVCD scan offset" is checked when you re-mux with BBmpeg
    - don't burn the CD at more than 4X speed- apparently this can cause playback problems
    - try using another brand of CDR - some cheap ones are hard to read in some players
PS - read some of the reports on the S510 (in the DVD players section) - ther are a few reports of audio problems, along with some possible fixes

  6. Yeah, what is the big deal with FF/RW? Virtually anything that’s on a CDR and not a CDDA track is impossible to scan on *anything* but a computer. Even the original CD players from the early 80’s gave us the ability scan and program the tracks, so why are we losing these simple and useful features? Who decided that MP3’s and MPG’s should only be watched in one speed, direction, and order? This has been bugging me for a long time.

  7. Does your DVD have "resume"

when I ffwd some SVCD's I get the same problem - I just stop the disk and start it back up with "resume" enabled -- picks right up both audio and video

also I've had good luck with the most recent versions of Nero - it's enabled me to ffwd without a problem -- I get the problem from SVCD's I get as bin/cue

  9. Never a problem for FF/RW using VCDimager with GUI. Only thing is, can't use the search function to jump to a specific time.

    Here are my answers:
    - tried burning with 4x instead of max.
    - changed the brand Sunstar / Philips, different types and capacity
    - DVD has Resume-function; it works but with the same audio problems and without FF/REW
    - burned with Nero; in the next days I will try it with a newer version 5.5.8.0

    Thx for your help

  11. The rewinding /fastword problem w/ SVCD's only happens when I use Nero to burn SVCD's. I now use VCDEasy to burn SVCD's and no longer have that problem, I only use NERO for VCD"S This does make for a few more mintues work as you need to make a bin/cue image with VCDEasy before burning unless it is already in that formate but it is very fast and works well everytime for me.

It seems to be a problem of my standalone DVD.
    1. Audio: changing digital output from "all" to "PCM only" causes that audio works without any problem at every time
    2. FF/REW: Yamaha´s Statement is that SVCD has to be Chinese Standard with 480*576 resolution, and video bitrate 2376 up to 2,6 Mbps; audio bitrate should be 224
I will try in the next days: these standards and also using vcdeasy

  13. you need "scandata.dat" on your svcd disc, there is a guide on this site that has the file for download.

  14. Good morning.

In my experience the FF/RW problem is down to a combination of -

no svcd scanoffsets - use bbmpeg.
PBC and scandata problems - this (amongst other things) is why i use vcdimager CLASSIC.

It creates a dummy PBC that not only allows FFRW, it also allows my TIME SEARCH option on my standalone to work; whereas the PBC on ALL vcdimagers since turn off the time search.

CLASSIC also allows mpeg greater the 99:59 mins, but you can only play past 100mins, not search. But this is a limitaion of SVCD spec.

Someone also said don't burn (s)vcd great than 4x.
Correct. But i /think/ this applies to if you are creating the disc and burning in one (ie nero method). Whereas if you have a bin created i think you can burn that at whatever you like. But don't quote me on that, and personally i'm in no hurry so i stick to 4X.

Your audio probs. A friend had audio prob. It was sorted because of the way the PCM audio was set up in the sub menus of his player. worth a look?

  15. scissors,

Where do I download the classic version of VCDImager? I used to be able to timesearch my SVCDs (if I recall correctly) but then I upgraded VCDImager and later began noticing the inability to Search.

Which version? Maybe you can host it on a website?

  16. It's the old 6.2. As I remember it's listed as the last stable version on the vcdimager gnu website. All the other are under development.

Also on a similar subject- all of the XMLs i've seen front ends produce make SELECT constantly appear on screen for my player.

I used to be able to run IAuthor. I ripped the PBC and always used the resultant XML as my basis.

I seem to remember this gave me chapters, ffrw and timesearch.

I went back to classic because i now but 100+ mins on a disc. VCDImager 7+ does not like more than about 94 mins and the menus freeze and throw wobblers.

So i now just dump the film. I've always maintained - "It's just a film" and if i want menus etc i'll buy the original.
