  1. I want to be able to convert my Sony mini DV tapes to VCD or SVCD format. I am using DV Studio via firewire for capture, and Adaptec easy CD creator 4 deluxe for ripping. I have been able to do one VCD. but I can only seem to get about 15 minutes on it and when played on PC it is poor quality and about a 4" x 6" window.
Can anyone tell me the best way to accomplish getting my mini DV's to VCD or SVCD for the best quality for playback on PC and/or TVDVD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

  2. Studio is a good program - use it to import your tape. Do edits, etc. It outputs to MPEG poorly though.

    You should consider the following:

Output the movie from Studio into a AVI. Use the best quality settings and a good codec. Indeo 5 at max quality should work. The resolution should be 352x240 NTSC VideoCD (352x288 for PAL/Europe) or 480x480 NTSC SuperVCD (480x576 PAL/Europe)

Get the free TMPGenc MPEG encoder www.tmpgenc.net
Use the Wizard to convert to the proper VideoCD or SuperVCD

You can use VCDEasy to burn the disc if the CDRDAO utility in VCDeasy recognizes your burner. A package like Nero does a great job.

Your video should be highly watchable now

Forget Adaptec EZCD - good for data - Bad for video
