  1. Well first thanks to this forum I can somewhat do a DVD9 to 2 DVD-Rs but I seem to get a "glitch" once in a while and not every single time.

If your looking for help with the whole DVD9 to 2 DVD-Rs then read this reply from Apollo, it is easy and it works very nicely

Ok, now for some things that I need help with.

1)Did "Drunken Master" under 4.5GB so I did this just like all the others. But this time the DVD-R does not want to play the menu, it shows for about 2 seconds, then a black screen with two small green squares near the top of the TV and then it stops playing all together. In my DVD-ROM it plays fine but you can not select the main menu. I double checked the DVD-R and everything looks good to me. Could this just be a "bad burn" or a "hic-up" from nero?

2)Did "Musketeer"(sp?) DVD9 to 2 DVD-Rs. I only get the movie when doing this but that is fine with me. My problem is it wont play the first 30 seconds of the movie, the dvd-rom and dvd stand alone skips it. Also if I try to skip ahead/backwards or try to fast forward/backwards the dvd-r locks up the rom/stand alone. double checked and I dont see anything wrong but not sure what to look for

3)I just put the whole "Final Fantasy" on one DVD-R (only the movie) and I also striped the unwanted streams to make it fit. This works great! but when i do the same for DVD9 to 2 DVD-Rs, it does not want to play.

    4) When I use Smartripper, sometimes when i do the complete rip (all files with backup) the audio is not in english when I check the rip with WINDVD. It will not let me change the audio in the menu either. I just delete the rip and do it over again and the 2nd time it is just fine. Lots of sitting around waiting if you know what I mean *chuckles*

    5) I have noticed the strip VOBIDS within Infoedit... my question is why and when would I want to strip VOBIDS?

    6) When stripping the unwanted streams, I noticed the subpicture. Is the sub-picture the movie or can I also remove this?

    7) When ripping with Smartripper, is it better to do a complete rip or can I just do the movie only? Trying to find ways of reducing the amout of time and still get a working backup.

    8. Doing the method below, do I still need to copy over the Audio folder, Jacket folder and the rest of the odd files found on the DVD? By the way, what is a "Jacket", is it the menu?

    9) With "Tombraider", I wanted to backup the movie but also add the U2 video on the end. Using the below method, can I do this? As long as they are different VOB numbers? Can I have more then one video_ts and the info files on one DVD-R? Yes I am already planning on buying a DVD-RW to just some of these experiments

    What I am using-
    Windows 98SE
    800MHZ AMD
    Pioneer 104 burner
    phillips DVD-ROM
    Apex 3102 Stand alone
    SmartRipper 2.39
    InfoEdit 0.91
    Nero Burner 5.5.8.0
    MLDVDR DVD-Rs

    What I am doing-
1: DO A FULL RIP OF DVD TO HARD DRIVE

2: OPEN INFOEDIT AND SELECT IFO OF MAIN MOVIE THEN SELECT VOB EXTRAS FROM TOP MENU AND THEN SELECT SPLIT TO 2 DVDRS. HAVE SELECTED REMOVE POPUPS, REMOVE MACROVISION, ADJUST VOB UNIT POINTERS & ADJUST AUDIO/SUBP POINT, CORRECT VOB UNIT, CORRECT IFO TABLES, AND SPLIT TO 2 DVD-RS, IF THE VOBIDS NEED STRIPPED ALSO SELECT STRIP VOBIDS. SELECT YOUR 2 DESTINATION DIRECTORIES AND PRESS OK CHOOSE THE SPLIT POINT AND VOBIDS (IF SELECTED) THEN LET INFOEDIT PROCESS THE VOBS.

3: WHEN THIS HAS COMPLETED YOU WILL HAVE VTS_01_0.BUP AND VTS_01_0.IFO PLUS A FEW VOB FILES VTS_01_1 VTS_01_2 ETC IN THE 2 FOLDERS.

4: OPEN INFOEDIT AGAIN AND SELECT THE NEW INFO FILE FROM YOUR FIRST SPLIT FOLDER THE SELECT VOB EXTRAS AND TICK BOXES CORRECT VOB UNIT, CORRECT IFO TABLES AND CREATE NEW VIDEO_TS.IFO & VTS_01_0.IFO. SELECT A DESTINATION FOLDER FOR THESE FILES YOU CAN USE THE SAME FOLDER BUT I PREFER TO USE ANOTHER FOLDER THEN COPY THE NEW FILES TO THE EXISTING FOLDER. WHEN THIS IS COMPLETED YOU WILL HAVE NEW VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP AND VTS_01.0.IFO AND VTS_01.0.BUP IF YOU PUT THESE INTO A NEW FOLDER COPY THEM TO THE ORIGINAL FOLDER AND REPLACE THE ORIGINALS.

5: NOW OPEN INFOEDIT AGAIN AND SELECT VTS_01_0.IFO FROM ONE OF THE SPLIT FOLDER AND SELECT GET VTS SECTORS AND KEEP PRESSING OK UNTIL IT FINISHES THEN CLOSE INFOEDIT.

6: OPEN INFOEDIT AGAIN AND NOW SELECT THE VIDEO_TS.IFO FROM THE SAME FOLDER AND SELECT GET VTS SECTORS SELECT YES WHEN PROMPTED AND OK UNTIL IT HAS FINISHED THEN EXIT, WHEN PROMPTED THAT YOU ARE EXITING WITHOUT SAVING CHANGES JUST SELECT YES AS CHANGES ARE SAVED AUTOMATICALLY.

7: REPEAT PROCESSES 4.5.6. FOR SECOND SPLIT FOLDER.

8: BEFORE BURNING MAKE SURE THE FOLDERS ARE NAMED VIDEO_TS.
The above is thanks to Apollo, thanks again for taking the time to help me

Would love to hear any hints, suggestions or comments that would help my learning

    Thanks for the help

  2. Ok, now that I am done beating my head against the computer desk.....

    Could someone PLEASE help???

I am doing one DVD9 to two DVD-Rs using the above mentioned method.

I have done this with Final Fantasy and it works great! no problems... BUT if I do the very same thing with any other DVD9 I get the same problem each single time. The first couple of mintues, maybe the first chapter, starts to play then skips to the second chapter. If I try to fast forward/backwards it locks up, I can skip forward but if I skip backwards it locks up.

I have now tried with 8 different movies and all the same result. The first chapter is there but is always skipped, if I fast forward/backwards it will lock up the DVD-ROM and the stand alone.

I can live with the loss of $1.95 per failure but I am going crazy with working on a movie for about 4 hours just to have the damn thing not work right About 15 mintues ago my Apex DVD player was saved by my wife because I was about to smash it into a wall.

If you have made a DVD-R thats works from a DVD9 please help me.

I have done the CD-R rip/audio/data/ISO for about the last 4 years with no problems so I am not a newbie to this field only to the DVD, I just need someone to hold my hand for a few mintues and I will be off and running.

Or could someone please update the guides here or over at Doom, to a complete working guide?

  3. Could my problem be the fact that I dont go into the VMG_PTT_SRPT and adjust the number of chapters?

Or I have heard rumors about the DVD-Rs must have the Title Set 1 on both DVD-Rs. But I had thought that InfoEdit makes the Title Set 1 when I am using it as mentioned above. Can I just copy this over? Is there any other files that must be on the DVD-Rs?

What about 'Get VTS Sectors'? Do I need to do this to every file on the DVD-R or just the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO?

Does the main movie have need of the menu to work correctly?

Should the VOBs all have the same number to work right? Per example if the main movie is VOB_8 then after all this is done I have VTS_01_0 then I have all the VTS_08_0... VTS_08_4. Can I just rename these files so that they are all the same number? Or is there no need for this?

Could all these problems be caused by InfoEdit, Nero or SmartRipper? If so then what software would you all suggest?

Every time I read a guide, I start to pull my hair out. Each and every guide for DVD9 to 2 DVD-Rs is completely different from each other and plus they will conterdic each other not to mention all the infomation that gets left out.

This is driving me crazy because Final Fantasy works great and I did it the same as the others that dont work

Any hints, suggestions, point me somewhere and any help at all would be great. Or am I forever doomed to only do single layer DVDs...
