  2. roxio is common, but it's one of the worst. esp version 5 platinum. you can use both together though, at least with adaptec 4 and nero, (since adaptec came with one of my burners and nero with the other i have both). just don't install directCD. ever. they both seem to work fine in win98/Me/2K. but there's a lot of other packages out there, check out fireburner, cdrwin, and go to http://www.cdmediaworld.com for good info.

    I have to say Nero.

It's a bit less expensive and very easy to navigate. The Menu Creation is one of the easiest I ever seen. It's the only one that lets you see the buffer info while it's burning. There's a lot more good stuff about it!

easy cd creator v 4 and up blow because they have horrible cd-rom drive support. i have had 24x, 40x, and 50x cdrom drives be recogized as 2x, 12x, and 24x drives, repsectively.

i have never had this trouble with nero, on the other hand. here is my advice.

    abandon directCD because it blows.
use nero for everything....because it is better,
    EXCEPT
use adaptec ezcd version 3.5c for doing on-the-fly disc@once audio cd copies. nero does not support this yet.
    THIS IS HARDCORE

I use WinOnCD from Roxio - great and ideal tool to create VCDs with complex menus... Nero cannot create a good looking menu but with WinOnCD you have a total control on the menu.

But not many of us have WinonCD

I would recomind Nero. It supports SVCD, something Roxio doesn't seem to want to touch
