1-is it possible to have the gpu output to 2 different resolutions?

2-I dont need 2 monitors except for editing. how do I disable the 2nd 24" monitor except for editing?

I just have a 1080 but have been on the lookout for a 2080ti/3080/3080ti/3090 depending on prices ive set.

  2. 1: sure
Before I had a HPZ27Q@5120x2880 and a INNOCN 27M2U@3840x2180 and had to replace the first with a Samsung Odyssey g9@7680x2160.
(At one time I had the HPZ27Q and two 1080p displays, never had a problem.)
2: turn it off, if you don't need it.

Turn it off as in toggle it off. Power down.

  5. I usually use the power button at the monitor to turn my monitor off, not sure whether there is a way to power off a monitor in Windows. (there probably is, I just never used it )

Yes, you can use two monitors with different resolutions easily; your GPU will handle it without any issues. For turning off the second monitor, right-click on the desktop, go to 'Display Settings,' and disable it when not needed, or just use the power button on the monitor.

Point of clarification: you can use 2 different resolutions WHEN YOU ARE USING EXTENDED MODE. If using duplicate/clone/mirror mode, the resolutions will be the same.
