I'm trying to download this video: https://www.crunchyroll.com/watch/G50UZ4E20/asta-and-yuno , It's a free video so should be fine I think. I'm able to get the keys for the video but I'm unable to download it from the mpd url even when I add headers and bearer authorization token to my N_m3u8DL-RE commands. I keep getting 403 authorization error still can anyone help me. Thanks in advance.

Yes anidl does work but I want to learn how they really do it, plus idk what endpoints they use the download speed is abysmally slow with anidl

I don't know how to get the mpd itself without errors, but you can just copy its contents from Network tab of your web browser to a local file, and then pass that local file to N_m3u8DL-RE. The video then downloads correctly.

You could look at the yt-dlp repository, they removed the Crunchyroll extractor with commit ff44ed53 in January this year, personally I still use a extractor version from around mid April '24, before they removed cookie support. I obviously had to add widevine decryption support - I've done it with a progress_hook that is invoked after download is finished. You can also do this with a postprocessor (which e.g. yt-dlp-mp4decrypt does).
Then there is a "devine" service for Crunchyroll that might work as well. -

I have another problem now, when I try to download the subtitles which is in a separate link than the mpd, it always downloads as webvtt even though the site states it should be ass, what am I doing wrong?

Subtitles are there in the MPD, shows up using N_m3u8DL-RE and they work fine in the downloaded video.Originally Posted by samxinfinity

you want to continue to do everything manually that's fine you are free to do that, but with anidl, if it automatically downloads the best CBR video at 1920x1080 (7479KiB/s) instead of the VBR which apart from the lower bitrate which you know is not everything but has various flaws according to those who compared them including banding if I remember correctly and then it downloads the best audio which is at 192kbps, it also downloads the subs in ASS and their fonts, chapters plus it decrypts and muxes everything with the formatting of the filename you have chosen, there are a couple of things to set up but once you do it is super convenient
