  1. Problem:
I have a really annoying problem. Just bought a new SONY DV-PC110E. Want to capture DV to the PC via a Sandberg firewire card. I have used Premiere 6.0 and Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.5 for capturing - both with the same result: When I capture to the DV1 .avi format in the full 720x576 mode I get a file with a size of approximately 1 Gb per 4 min (which seems reasonable, I guess). A right click on the captured .avi file -> proporties confirms that the resolution is 720x576. However when playing the file e.g. in windows media player the resolution does NOT look like 720x576, rather 300x200 or something... I don't get any errors or have lost frames.

    Specs:
400Mhz Pentium II (Is this the problem?)
    Maxtor 60Gb Hdd 7200 rpm
    384 Mb ram
    Sandberg firewire IEEE1394
    DV SONY PC110E Pal

    Anyone help?
Have looked around alot on this site without come to a solution.

  2. You are problably using your player to display the video at 50% of its size. Right click on the playing area and click either on 100% or full size.

  3. Your MS DV codec is running in low resolution mode. There is a registry key that will unlock the codec so you get full resolution. (Sorry, I don't have the key, do a search for MS DV codec high resolution)

Windows Media Player is not the best player for DV anyways. It does not keep the right aspect ratio.

  5. Thanks for your input - I think I'm getting a feeling of what is goning on - but I still need an advice.

When capturing using the standard DV Video Encoder -- type 1, the playback quality using WinXP's Mediaplayer, the resolution did not look like 720x576 - that was my initial problem. I have now found out that If I take out one single frame in the captured clip with the apparenly bad resolution and save (as .bmp) I suddenly have a very nice resolution (720x576). In other words, it looks like the Mediaplayer is not able to display the full resolution OR it is simply the nature of this DV Video Encoder -- type 1 - format???

Do you know any player that is able to play this DV Video Encoder -- type 1 format in "full resolution"?

Skittelsen wrote that my MS DV codec is running in low resolution - can anyone help me find the key - I had no succes on the web (if this is the problem).

    Thanks for your help.
