I have downloaded a clip in widescreen format (16:9). So I encoded it to a SVCD with TMPGEnc 2.53. As settings I selected "1:1 VGA" in the "Source Aspect Ratio"-field and "16:9" in the "Aspect Ratio"-field. The encoding seemed to be OK. So I tried to play the output in PowerDVD and the movie played really good with the right aspect ratio. 8) . So now I thought, "lets burn it"
So... I did burn it with Nero Burning.
But... on my "Mustek V560"-dvd player... the picture is shaking (even if i pause the playback). And the picture seems to be in the left corner of the tv-screen.

Someone knows what's the problem here or have the same problem with their "Mustek V560"-dvd player? Mustek sais it can play DVD,VCD and SVCD with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Everything works fine if i choose "4:3" in the "Aspect Ratio"-field, but if i choose "4:3" the aspect ratio isn't right then because i have a widescreen-tv.
The clip is in 23,976 fps and i've tried clips with other framerates to.

Some help would be VERY nice!

  2. I've got the same issue with my Lenco DVD02 player. Although I have a widescreen TV, I can only play 4:3 encoded movies. However the picture on my PC has 4 black bars around it and so I'm able to adjust the screen to 16:9 without problems or distortion of the movie.
So I'm sure it's an issue with some DVD player models not being able to handle 16:9 movies (although DVD's aren't a problem) but any decent widescreen TV mst be able to handle this.
I've spend quite some time figuring this out but finally accepted this as one of life's little tricks it plays on us

  4. I didn't use any settings, the appear automatically. I capture my footage from my camcorder at resolution 720x576 (PAL). This is a fixed resolution for both 4:3 and 16:9 movies. Then I edit the movie using Studio 7 or Ulead Videostudio or whatever and create the final movie at resolution 576x480. This final AVI file is converted in TPMGENC into a xsvcd with video source aspect ratio of 4:3 and Aspect Ratio of 4:3. This is the only setting wich works in my standalone player. Unfortunatly this movie is shown distorted on my PC because I can't use the VGA aspect ratio.

I get the same problem on both Dansai 852 and Dansai 1010. I have a 16:9 TV and at 480x576 SVCD the picture is moved to the left and shakes even when paused. At 720x576 the picture doesnt shake but is stretched horizontally so that the sides are cropped.

Is the answer to leave both TMPGENC input and output aspect ratios at 4:3 regardless of aspect ratios and then do the resizing on your TV or software player manually?

What about VGA 1:1? should i use this or 4:3? both seem to have same result.
