I have a minor problem with occasional audible drops on my DV transfers once I've encoded them. The problem only exists when I watch it through a Portable hard drive via the USB port on my Samsung TV (Also on my son's modern TV). They play fine on my computer and other laptops in the home. They play fine on an old TV using a USB stick.
The DV transfers audio is 16 bit 32000.000HZ I did my transfers with WinDV.
I've been using AAC audio compressor but was wondering if there are other compressors I could try on Virtualdub2 that are still widely compatible with watching on a TV? I was able to eliminate the audible drops when I encoded using Avidemux with audio FDK but I wasn't sure if I could use FDK on Virtualdub2. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try using 44.1 or 48 kHz instead of 32kHz audio.

When converting to aac, adjust the sample rate.

Thanks Selur. I have always used the default (no change). I will select 48000Hz but leave the other settings as no change? I will encode one of my DV transfer now and let you know how I get on. Thanks.

I would also enable 'High quality'.
