  1. Hi, I want to get the funny bits out of several videos and create a new video with just the funny bits.
Can it be done losslessly or is re-encoding necessary?

I am running Linux but have access to Windows too, if need be.

  2. That depends,...
I assume all source videos have the same format and are compatible,... (If you can't append them without re-encoding them, they are not compatible.)
If your source videos are already in a lossless format, cutting and combining them should be possible without loss, but would require reencoding.
On mpeg based video formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP, H.264, H.265 you can only cut on key frames, otherwise reencoding is required.
That said, I don't know of any tool (may be someone else does) which offers what you want, so you will probably have to do it all by hand. (check whether the files are compatible, but them into pieces and merge those pieces)
=> using the NLE or your choosing and reencoding, is probably the easier way

  3. Thanks Selur.
Yes, they are all in MP4 format and all the same resolution (downloaded 720p YouTube videos). I just don't want the finished product to look too bad.
