  1. I've been ripping my DVD's into sVCD, and am very happy with how dvd2svcd works. Quality is good, but i'm curious about the encoding settings.
I want to rip them to Mpeg2 so I can watch them on my computer and some day on a dvd player that does svcd/or writable dvds. I notice that when I set the encoding to use a certain number of disks for a certain lenght movie, it puts the bitrates on the bottom. What I'd like is for the final mpeg that gets created to be as big as it can be. If the movie requires 3 disks, and the final disk only requires 1/2 of its space, I'd rather encode the whole thing at a higher bitrate and use that whole disk for better quality.

Can anyone give me any reason why I shouldnt Max out the Max. Average setting to some very high number? I know that I may get a dvd player that cant handle svcds at that high, but for the time being I'm watching them on my TV over the TV out.

First of all u have to visit the doom9.org and there in the forums and in the site u ll find all u need for dvd2svcd.
The way the program calculates the bit rate is abit complicated.
It uses the min and max u put on the bitrate in conjuction to the mins u put a vcd.
If u play abit with the mins of a vcd or the number of cd for the amount of mins u l see the bitrate on the right to change.
But for more info goto the doom9.org

  3. I believe 1.0.7 b4 had a calc bug and it'd make you overburn. Anyway I don't see the min avg but always make sure it's above 1600. Usually if it's over 120mins, I check if the credits can't be cut by not ripping the last chapter. It has pretty much always filled it. If you use 1pass vbr then it's up in the air though.
