  1. N_m3u8DL-RE has been mentioned in several posts, so I thought I'd try it. I downloaded it from here https://github.com/nilaoda/N_m3u8DL-RE and tested it on virustotal. Two security companies gave it a red flag.

I haven't tried other versions, but I think people on this forum probably have, so my question is: do all versions get flagged on virustotal and are these known false flags?

Maybe building it from the source might give a different result? I can't see any instructions to do that on github, so I see a learning curve ahead

  2. It's good to be cautious, but If only 2 out of 62 vendors flag something, especially an .exe, I don't think is a cause for alarm. Everything is also viewable on github.

I checked the linux version out of curiosity and got 0/62. I feel pretty confident in saying this is clean

  3. Fortunately the author has made this easy to build, even for someone new to this. The output is 'clean' on virustotal. The output being (for windows) an exe, some ddls and some pdb and json files. The exe, dlls, the json files and some other .NET files all seem essential for the program to run.

I looked into putting all these into a single file and found a possible explanation for the red flags: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3261942/net-whole-application-as-a-single-exe-file, so I think it's 'all clear'.
