    How do I losslessly download YouTube videos in the same quality they were uploaded on the site? I tried youtube-dl but I keep getting this.

    youtube-dl has not been updated for ages and YT has changed in the meantime. Use yt-dlp which has regular updates. If you are using a GUI that relies on youtube-dl such as TVDownloader you can 'fool' it to accept yt-dlp. That is my 'go to' and you can select the format you require.

    Technically, you can not download at the same quality as the original upload since YT re-encodes everything.

    Nitpicking: you can't; Youtube processes each video and never lets you download the original version. I'd recommend to use yt-dlp as well, it downloads by default the version it thinks has best quality. You can always call "yt-dlp -F <your-url>" to let yt-dlp show a list of available video formats and choose the one that fits best for your purposes.
