Just in the past week I managed to get my hands on an SVO-5800 I burrowed out of curiosity.
I decided I'd pop one of my old VHS Hollywood movies into play from the year 2002. It had major issues right away.
I wanted to test out the TBC controls. When I adjust the controls nothing happens and I tried ''local', and 'remote' just for kicks. I also witnessed the color is a little washed out and noisy. I hooked up to S-VIDEO out. The image you see should be deep green on other VCR's. Please excuse the fact that I don't have a capture device hooked up. I've seen these decks work much better than this.
I then thought to myself, maybe the TBC cards were taken out. I opened up the cover and it doesn't appear to be any cards missing but could be wrong. The heads are incredibly clean, and I don't see any burned or oozing capacitors on the boards. Is there any other reason TBC controls would not be responsive? Also if this would make a difference, I am running the S-Video feed into an HDMI upscaler. Don't see why that would disable the controls though.
