I have these green edges on the left side of the picture, its om the top also, dont showing here.
I also have this "noise" across the screen, some times its more than this and more...
    My setup is:
    Sony EV-S9000E hi8-player
Hauppage HVR-5525 HD internat TV-tunercards, and using hauppage capture-program
A combo that works just perfect for me.
I have one more of the same setup, same on the other PC, the noice seems to be better on the other machine, just some few noise there.
I also tried with Hauppage Live-USB2, same thing. It seems that this appears when the VCR is warm, when it has been doing some films and has get warm.
    Any ideas?
Sahll mention that the green borders are on the other player too, not the noise....
I have already returned one of 4 5525-cards because it stopped working, the PC didnt find the card. But i have total now of 3 of these cards, and 4 Live-USB2-dongles....

  2. Does the noise happen on all tapes, or just a few? If it's only some tapes they were probably recorded in a camcorder where the tape alignment had gone bad, i.e the tape guides that hold the tape against the video head loosened. It was a common issue in 8mm camcorders in particular.

I know both the Sony Hi8 decks and the newer sony Hi8/Digital8 camcorders have some discoloration on one or more picture edges. On the camcorders it's on the right, but it seems to be different on the VCRs. On the camcorders it seems to be some inherent design flaw, but I don't know for sure about the vcr. If it worsens when it "gets warm" it's possible there are some electronics in it going bad. I don't know on this on in particular, but on other models the power supply capacitors often go bad over time and needs replacement.

The color shift to the right in itself is not a mechanical alignment, It is a chroma shift, From what I've gathered from online posts it is due to faulty playback camcorder caused probably by aging electronic components, Try a different camcorder or apply some script filters, Jagabo has some of those filters that can visually improve the overall look of the frame.

Noise bars if appears in normal playback are caused by mechanical problem.
