    I see about a zillion places to download the AC3filter codec, but NONE of them say what to do after I've downloaded it. Does Windows 10 magically know it's there in my downloads folder? Is this some secret thing that users just know.

    Isn't it a .exe file? I assume you run it and it installs

    It will probably be installed into your Windows System directory.

    But as it is no longer developed, you may better use LAV Filters instead for maintained support of the latest Windows versions.

    It installs just like a normal program in the Program Files(x86) folder, but I assume the filter identifies itself to the system. As long as it works. Thanks for the replies.
