I have always used K-Lite Codec Mega Pack. I remember that AC3filter was used as the audio decoder.
The current version of K-Lite Codec Mega Pack doesn't seem to have AC3filter (well I can't find it in the Start menu after installation). It seems that K-Lite Codec Mega Pack has changed to using LAV splitter (audio decoder). I just can't find any settings regarding AC3filter anywhere.
So I download AC3filter manually and install it manually. I load up AC3filter config and can see output levels. When I play a movie in Media Player Classic or SMPlayer, I cannot see my output levels moving/signals in AC3filter. Can someone help me to setup Media Player Classic, or SMPlayer to get it to use AC3filter please. Help based on latest versions much appreciated!

Thanks, but they're tutorials for Windows Media Player, mainly.
I managed to get it working for Media Player Classic, but now I want smplayer.
(mpc slow speed also changes the pitch which I don't like) -

AC3Filter works with every DirectShow-based software.
Are you sure you meant MPC and not MPC-HC?
Media Player Classic is VERY outdated.
SMplayer is just a GUI for MPlayer, which (on Windows) MAY use some DirectShow video decoders, but not audio decoders or audio processors
(as far as I remember, at least).
EDIT:
I was wrong, MPlayer supports dshow audio decoders as well.
I have never tried them though.
I don't use MPlayer through GUIs, so I cannot help you with that, sorry.Last edited by Marsia Mariner; 1st Jul 2017 at 19:47. Reason: edit

According to the info here AC3Filter is still included with the mega pack. I haven't used K-Lite for many years and even then only briefly, but I imagine you'd have to select the codecs you want when you install it, and maybe choose which formats they'll decode.
If a codec pack doesn't walk you through those sorts of options and you have to configure everything yourself, there's not much point to it. You might as well install the individual codecs yourself. I don't know how K-Lite works though....
