  1. Life is too short...Having downloaded a (many!) movies from WinMX as three .avi files, I have yet to succeed in converting to vcd mpeg. I fail whether Virtualdub gives me a frame rate of (PAL) 25 or, as in the latest case, 14.985 (what's that?). I follow Sefy's instructions as far as I am able: but persistently get the error message from TMPGEnc "cannot open or unsupported". I have Divx codecs 3.11, 4 and 5 loaded. I have tried all of the standard VCD templates in TMPetc. I have converted the audio to .wav. I have even tried converting my 14.9fps file to 25fps with avifrate. Obviously, I am missing something (a brain?). ANY help would be appreciated.

the first question would be: do the files play in WMP? If not, then you lack the proper codec required to play the file, and there is nothing that TMPG can do with the file.
if you can play the file, in TMPG try going to options, environmental settings, VFAPI plugin, and increase the priority of the directshow reader to the highest.

  3. Thanks for your reply. No, the files do not play in WMP. But I have avi and the 3 divx codecs on my PC. Is their position (i.e. in which directory) significant? Or how do I find out which other codec I need?

  4. Further - I've now downloaded & run Nimo codec pack and TMPGEnc WORKS! Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  5. I'd actually recommand you to use the Kristal Studio Pack instead of Nimo, i've had troubles with it.
