TMPG Preview problems

does anyone know why when I open a file in TMPG most do not register on the preview window? Some work fine but most encoded with smr don't register. I thought TMPG could convert most .avi's including those with smr codecs?

can you play the files in WMP? if not, then you don't have the right codec, and TMPG can't do anything with the file.
if you have smr files, you'll need the smr codec

Some one at TMPG explained it to me. Incase some one else has the problem:

Go to OPTIONS -> Enviromental setting -> VFLAPI Plug-in...and then Right click on where it says "Direct show file reader" and it will give you an option to raise the preference of it.....I have it up to "3" and It displays the preview...and its the same thing with sound.

It worked for me.
