Some time ago I did open a video capture thread here, which I tried to find now to update it.

Well, I have succeeded in what I wanted: capturing HD (1080P) with at least stereo audio.

The problem was in the unbranded capture external box, that didn't allow that.

So I looked and looked among the affordable capture boxes, costing less than $200.

What I looked for was having the capability to input external line level audio, not just mono mic.

The only one that seemed to offer that was the Chinese Acasis. So I bought one for about $140.

When it arrived and I first connected it to my laptop, the computer jumped from recognizing it to not to. But when it did it worked as it should, through its HDMI input, not needing external audio link.

The problem was that recognizing intermittence, certainly driver related. And Acasis did not provide a special driver for these external units.

In fact, if you into the Acasis site you will find the same box with several names.

So I decided to try the box on my desktop PC, installing OBS latest version, and voilá! Perfect capture with stereo audio.

So with that setup I returned to the laptop and... nothing. The Acasis was not recognized.

The only thing different was the OBS version, which was 27.2.3 on the PC and 27.1.3 on the laptop. So I uninstalled the 1.3 and installed the 2.3. Problem solved!

So it seems OBS updates the drivers, which I didn't guess they did.

I wonder if there's an OBS tutorial that teaches all the tricks for capturing. The audio setup is not an easy one.

Pity I have never done one, but I should do a tutorial video on the matter. But copyright questions might be an issue for capturing.
