CD-Recordable.com DVD-R media - Read before ordering

I want to tell you about my experience with USA product from:

CD-Recordable.com

Discs are terrible quality, half of them failed to verify - that means that some files or part of video are not readable although burn process was successful! They are not 2x speed at all! NO application can record them at 2x speed. (RecordNow 4, NERO 5582, Easy CD Creator 5.1 all record in 1x speed) Obviosely, CD-Recordable is lying to us. Recording surface is from some cheap material very easy to scratch. Discs are not even. They send you 30 discs without any hard plastic package so, they are full of dust and buckled even before you record them what can result in failure. You cannot clean them because, like I said: surface is too sensitive – you will scratch it. Do yourself a favor and buy quality discs for $5, you will spend less money and time. I will not repeat the same mistake.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for.

However, I have burned about a dozen of the cheap cd-recordable.com DVD-R successfully at 2x without any verify errors.

The only problem I had with cd-recordable.com is that it took awhile to get a refund after they sent me the wrong discs. Also it is next to impossible to contact these guys by email or phone.

Thanks for the heads up, I was about to order their double sided dvd-rs
I have a Panasonic E20 stand alone dvd recorder. Any recommendations on decent priced media that is compatible with this player, including apple or pioneer brands? These are sites I found in the US thus far. I haven't ordered from anyone yet:

In defense of the cdrecordable.com double-sided DVD-Rs (the ones that cost $5.95 each) ... I've had nothing but success with them. I use a Pioneer DVR-104 burner and Toast Titanium to burn my projects authored in Apple DVD Studio Pro.

I have a picky portable RCA DVD player, and settops from JVC and Daewoo. These double-sided DVDs play perfectly in all three. I just burned two of them tonight and was on my way to watch them when I read this post. I think you will sometimes get a bad batch of discs, but given the other reports of success with these particular DVDs from other people in other threads, I think it's a little unfair to imply every product they sell is inferior.

From what I read, plus my own experience, media sub-US$4 is just not worth the gamble, given that these things cost money. Stick with the following:

• Apple branded DVD-R ($4.99 each in lots of five)
  Verbatim branded DVD-R (dunno the cost)
  the double-sided DVD-R from cdrecordable.com ($5.95 each, or just under $3 per side)

I ordered from http://www.cd-recordable.com their export package with 100 General DVD-R some weeks ago (actual prive USD 1.50/ea.). I burned them (all 100 discs) on an Apple G4/733 with Pioneer A03 Superdrive. After the needed firmware upgrade I'm very happy that I don't get coasters. I would not hesitate to order with cd-recordable.com again.
I ordered cheap DVD-Rs in Great Britain from http://www.lynxdv.com (GBP 0.83/ea.). I have no problem to burn with 2x speed with Toast 5.1.2.

Some people use these disk fine, others have bad results (like me). Alot seems to depend on your settop player. My pc can read them fine but they are the worst yet that I have tried in my Apex AD-1500

I think the bottom line is this..regardless of the product discussed..someone is gonna have a problem with it.

If you have a bad experience, it's unfortunate, but it's a little
much to think that your experience is gonna be had by everyone
else that uses this product. I do appreciate folks making their
problems known, but at the same time, lets not get carried
away with the accusations.

I've had no trouble at all using cdrecordable media with my Pioneer A03.
Sometimes the burn at 2X, sometimes not. For $2.00 i dont mind
having to burn at 1X, because i've yet to have a problem with any
of these discs being played correctly.

Until i start having problems, i'm not gonna spend $5.99 for a blank
DVD-R.
