Hey guys.. I'm having a little trouble with cutting a mpg file, then making it into a VCD. This is my problem:

-I have a MPG (DVD RIP) file, which I did not make, that is 1hr 22min long.
-The MPG file, seems to be VCD compatible, because when I use Roxio Easy CD Creator, it adds the file perfectly, without any errors (gives a green check mark). (Same goes for Nero, yet will not burn because it's over 80minutes).
-Thus I need to fix the MPG file, to fit it onto a 80min CD-R.
-I have tmpegec and cut the file perfectly into 1hr:18min. But when i try to make it into a VCD, it gives a Big red X next to System Clock Refrence (on the original it was 1200, now it says 1058), and some yellow ! marks.
-I've also tried to merge two working MPG files with tmpegec and get the same red X error.
-I tried some other programs like Honestech MPEG Editor 1.0/2.0, they work, but since it's a DEMO it only works for 5min.
-I'm unable to find any FREEWARE MPG cutting/merging program that will leave the file the way it was.. perfect.

Can someone please help me fix the errors I get, because I would really love to be able to cut/merge MPG files and burn them into a VCD. Maybe there is another Freeware program like tmpegec, yet doesn't make the close refrence errors, etc.

Also, I used Nero. And it too gave me errors after I added the file. Then when i pressed Write CD, it jammed my computer up.

    Thanks for your support

You might look under Mpeg-2 editing at this url:

    http://pub9.ezboard.com/fpyro1394frm8

It's for the ADS Instant DVD Solution but the editing tips using Visual Studio 5 and other programs might still be relevant to your situation...

  4. use Mpewgtool. it is freeware, faster than TmpGenc and works great with VCD's. Svcd's is another story.

have you tried just over burning the disc? if it's only 2 minutes over it might still fit on an 80min disc.

Over burning? You mean regularily just pressing WRITE CD and it might fit onto the CD?
I tried to find MPEGTOOL but was unable to locate it anywhere.
Is Virtual 5 a Mpeg Cutting/Merging program? Is it Free or a demo?

Visual Studio is a capture, editor and conversion program. Try Ulead and see if there is a demo. Mine (VS5) came with the ADS Instant DVD (IDVD) and has a plug in for that capture device. You can try My Flix XE for editing Mpeg-2 without losing the A/V sync. My Flix is for Mpeg-1 only. URL is:
