  1. Hello !

I am trying capturing AVI files from VHS tapes with Virtualdub but I have a lot of small artifacts on some scenes (flat areas with more or less the same colour). These artifacts are present already while watching the video on the screen (prior to recording) and are also present on the recorded file. Same problem when using AVI_IO. But the artifacts are not present when recording AVI files with the ATI recorder (ATI TV). However, this recorder has limited capabilities and since the SVCD template does not exist for AVI files (introduced only for mpeg2 in latest MMC) I would like to use Virtualdub.
    My configuration:
    Asus P3V4X
    PIII 1GHz
    256Mo RAM
AIW 128Pro with VfW driver ---6292, MMC 6.3

    Can someone help ?

    Thank you in advance.

  2. My last try was to use latest AIW128Pro drivers (xxx707 and MMC7.1 with VfW capturing programs through a mapper. Well, this didn't got rid of my artifacts either !

People with good milage on digital video this is a challange for you ! Help!

I can mail a sample picture to interested people, I guess this will clarify the problem better than a written description.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. your options-
use 6292/MMC 6.3 and just record to 640x480 AVI in VCR2 codec
use 6292/MMC 6.3 and edit the registry to set 480x480 as a custom width/height (search
registry for 'group8' and edit in there) and use VCR2 again
record very high bitrate MPEG I-frame only; this is basically MJPEG
use 6292/MMC 7.1 this is really the way to go for SVCD, but not VCD. turn MotionEst all the way up to 100%

avoid the 7078 drivers, they're terrible.

  4. Thanks Patrick, I will try your suggestions + some others I thought over this night:
    - trying various (older) VIA chipset AGP drivers
    - testing the board on a mb with BX chipsets

Since it appears from the very little feedback that not many people have these artifacts, I believe the problem comes from my specific configuration.

I'll come back with more news after the holidays.
