I asked this question in a non-related thread so I figured I had better ask the question in its own thread...

Maybe someone can help me with a problem thats been plagueing me for some time now. When I try to capture certain VHS's (usually older ones but happens with newer tapes too) I get a rainbow effect at the top of the screen. Now this is not visible when playing from the
VCR->TV but it shows up when capping from VCR->Capture Card. If I fiddle with the input cable (switch from SVideo to composite) the problem is diminished slightly. I have two VCRS (one which is quite new) and this problem is visible with both players although the problem will be less apparent on one or the other. Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix it? Is it a crappy input connection or something with the original recording of the program?

Someone already suggested that there may be fungus on the tapes or the VCR heads need to be cleaned. The heads were cleaned recently so I don't think that's it. I would believe the fungus but why does the rainbow only show up when capturing and not while watching it on the tv?

Here are two samples of what I'm talking about:

    Thanks for all the help.
